The most important parks in Milan are Parco Sempione, Parco Forlani, Giardini Pubblici, Giardino della Villa Communale, Giardini della Guastalla and Parco Lambro. Parco Sempione is a large public park and contains a Napoleonic Arena, a tower, an art exhibition centre, some ponds and a library.Parco Forlani is the largest park in Milan, with a size of 235 hectares and it contains a hill and a pond. Giardini della Guastalla is one of the oldest gardens in Milan.
Cuisine:
Milan has its own regional cuisine. It is typical for Lombard cuisines which uses more frequently rice and pasta. Milanese cuisine includes “cotoletta alla milanese”, a breaded veal. The salame milano, a salami with a very fine grain, is widespread throughout Italy. The best known Milanese cheese is gorgonzola from the namesake town nearby, although today the major gorgonzola producers operate in Piedmont.
Sports:
The city hosted, among other events, the FIFA World Cup in 1934 and 1990, Football Championship in 1980; most recently the 2003 World Rowing Championships, the 2009 World Boxing Championships and some games of the upcoming World Championships in 2010. Football is the most popular sport in Italy and Milan Marathon is an annual marathon race held in November in Milan.
Culture:
Milan was major artistic centre throughout the centuries. Numerous art institutes, academies and galleries exist in the city.
Milan’s art flourished in the Middle Ages, and with the Visconti family being major patrons of the arts, the city became an important centre of Gothic art and architecture.
Milan is one of the international capitals of industrial and modern design, and is regarded as one of the world’s most influential cities in such fields. The city is particularly well-known for its high-quality ancient and modern furniture and industrial goods.

It is one of 3 airports in the Milan metropolitan area. Linate Airport is one of the three major airports of Milan, Italy, along with Malpensa Airport and Orio al Serio airport. Due to its closer proximity to Milan, it is 4.2 NM (7.8 km; 4.8 mi) east southeast of the city, compared with Malpensa, which is 21.58 NM (39.97 km; 24.83 mi) northwest of the city, it is mainly used for domestic and short-haul international flights, with over 9.6 million passengers in 2006.
